The Legend, Roof Garden and waterfront aren’t pieces of scenery added for tourists. They’ve been part of people’s summers for generations.
The Roof Garden first opened in 1923. The wooden coaster now known as The Legend followed in 1930. The Nutty Bar stand dates to 1945, and the Queen II has been carrying passengers on West Lake since the 1980s.
Even the Park itself survived because people cared enough to save it. When redevelopment threatened it in 1999, the community’s Save the Park campaign raised the money needed to preserve it.
That tells you something about Arnolds Park. People get attached to this place.
You don’t have to live in the past to love what has lasted.
Arnolds Park has changed over the years, but a surprising number of the things people associate with an Okoboji summer are still part of the experience.
The Legend
The wooden roller coaster has been part of the Park since 1930. For a lot of families, riding it is practically a summer rite of passage.
The Roof Garden
The original Roof Garden became a longtime home for live music beginning in 1923. A recreated Roof Garden once again hosts performances and events in the heart of the Park.
The Queen II
The excursion boat has been part of West Lake since 1986. Seeing the lake from the water remains one of those experiences that feels unmistakably Okoboji.
Summer by the Water
The rides are only part of it. The waterfront, music, boats, food and people gathering together are what make the area feel alive during summer.
